Great Wandering_Dan 2009-01-06 16:03

Hi, Kristaps -

In some ways the WS is even more interesting than the main shot, with the grouping of people and the chiaroscuro effect on their faces - not to mention all that nearby lava!

But this shot has a nice minimalism to it, and strong diagonals created not just by the lines of the volcano (including the side piece on the left), but also by the clouds.

Best,
Dan

PS: Did you bring marshmallows?

Default To zmey: Blue is as Blue does

Even though I did use a polarizer (at least, I think I did), the sky out West in the fall really is that blue, especially in late afternoon.

By the way, I did write a note, which I just posted. I accidentally hit some control key combination early on and TE posted it before I was ready. Check it out; I did try to pull the rock up some.

Best,
Dan

hehe, Dan, YOU out of all people pressed "some CTRL key" combination that sent your post up before you wanted to? ;)) just kidding, man.

i can sense the polarizer at play here. the top-right corner is slightly vignetted (the corner is darker than the middle): a known polarizing 'problem'; some call it 'effect' though.

but don't worry, as i said in my comment, i love that blue. but the rock is so interesting that i ALMOST regret the blue taking my attention away from it :)
