Great macjake 2018-11-19 2:32

Hi Viviane
I just logged on and I noticed this one :)
Thank you very much for the dedication photo! I appreciate it indeed. I have stood here myself, not in June as you did, but in winter :) My goal is to one day return in the warmer months as you have. What a wonderful shot and scene this is, wow.
Looking at it brings back so many fond memories. the water is amazing, so rich in royal blue tones, the mountains look strong and dominant.! I have so many questions...did you encounter a lot of bugs in the warm weather? was it difficult to find accomodation in the summer? Obviously the answers for me in the winter were No and No haha. great post! thanks again

Wink To macjake: Grijs op Reis or Grice op Rice

Bonjour Craig & merci!

We started our trip on May 3rd 2017 and were back home on July 1st. Our way of transportation was/is - as thousands of other (older) Europeans our car + caravan ( see WS: ).
  • In Holland we call people of our generation with a caravan Grijs op Reis - speak out as Grice op rice - which means the gray hair people are travelling mostly in May/June and September/October. And especially the roads to France, Spain & Italy are crowed with Grijs op reis in these months!
We enjoyed the landscapes and the cold but sunny weather in Sweden, Lapland and north Norway (in May) as much as the extraordinary weather in the Lofoten... (in June)
Because we had the caravan we could do a lot of tours with our car and the camping sites are less expensive than hotels or B&B. If you are not camping you can hire a bike and take a cabine at almost every camping site. We saw many younger people travelling that way...
No bugs at all! Thats an avantage to travel in May or June, no bugs or tourists yet...
