Great holmertz 2016-04-04 9:56

Hello Chris,
Walking along these quays on a warm evening in spring or early autumn could be nice. Maybe it already is, even in early April. At least there are great colours at sunset and inviting lights all along he waterfront. I once had an idea of going all around the Black Sea, crossing into Ukraine from Tulcea, but I got a feeling there might not be any regular connections across the border and further away to Odessa. Have you any idea about that?
Best regards,
Gert

Default To holmertz: Tulcea

Hi Gert

As long as it isn't in August, when swarms of mosquitoes abound because of all the stagnant water. April / May and late September to early November are the best times of the year to visit the Danube Delta. I never checked for connections into Ukraine from Romania. Someone in Sulina offered me a daytrip to Ukraine for 50 euro (the river is the international border) but I wanted to see the cemetery, lighthouse, the beach and the town first without being pressured to go on any tours. Tourist infrastructure in this part of Romania is not great, even though the Delta is a major drawcard. I visited the Delta museum in Tulcea which had a good aquarium in the basement and some displays of birdlife common in the swamps.
