Photographer's Note

This is the most famous Chinese square, Tiananmen. It has this name because the gate in front of it. It is surrounded by ugly soviet buildings in two sides, by the huge imperial gate in the other side and by Mao Mausoleum.
It was a stage for many historic episodes: western armies invaded the town and destroyed a gate located in this area at 19th century, the portrait of the first president was put here when he died, Mao watched the army passing by here during special events, a row of tanks faced a lonely man here in 1989...
When I was there the space was closed and there was a strong vigilance in the areas around, I guess because there was an international meeting in the Great Hall of People, that ugly building you can see ahead.

Essa a mais famosa pra蓷 chinesa, Tiananmen. Ela deve seu nome a um grande portal da cidade imperial que fica ali. A pra蓷 rodeada por dois edif獳ios feios em estilo sovi彋ico, num lado est o portal imperial e no outro o mausol徼 de Mao.
Essa pra蓷 foi o palco de inmeros epis鏚ios hist鏎icos. Tropas ocidentais invadiram a cidade e destru甏am o portal imperial que havia no lugar da pra蓷, o retrato do primeiro presidente foi dependurado aqui, era aqui que Mao assistia a passagem das tropas durante as paradas militares e foi aqui que em 1989 um rapaz sozinho enfrentou uma fileira de tanques.
Quando eu estava l a pra蓷 estava fechada e com a seguran蓷 em n癉el alt疄simo, creio que devido a uma reuni緌 internacional que acontecia no Grande Sal緌 do Povo, aquele pr嶮io feio que se v ao fundo.
