Photographer's Note

I was out of bed very early in a morning heading to Talat Sao market in town just to get a taste of local life and like most markets in Asia, it starts very early with a heady mixture of sights, sounds and smells. Those bounty of golden rich baguettes grabbed my attention so much more and indeed hard to resist even though I found the lighting was a bit of a challenge to tackle. Laos, like Vietnam, was once part of France𠏋 overseas empire, the French brought the baguette to Laos and while its empire is long gone, its bread remains till today.

This shot, is one of five snaps taken hand-held, I loved the effect of tungsten light giving this a warmer tone that I aimed for.

Setting: 34 mm, 1/3 sec, F4.2, ISO Raw 200, 0535 hrs

Photos of markets are always interesting, full of life and colors, but photos of markets at night is something different, that we don't see so often. And you've managed the light perfectly here, and the sharpness is also excellent! Wonderful job!

A good shot of the Vientiane night market. I can see the baguette bread sticks are still popular. I was in Laos in 1998. I like the motion blurred pedestrians. Tfs!

Bread is an integral part of French life; it's no wonder they took it with them on their colonial adventures. This is a beautiful moody composition. Well framed and perfectly exposed to capture the early morning atmosphere. Excellent colours and very good sharpness.

Hello Abmdsudi, a scene full of atmosphere, and those all important lights illuminating the market stalls enabling us to see what is for sale.
Indeed the baker must have been up very early to bake the baguettes!
Thanks for making the effort and getting up early yourself to be able to bring us this scene. I notice two shadowed people.

Hello abm, I remember how I liked baguettes in Laos, and also the cheese vache qui rit. The remainder of the French times in Laos. You had to get up VERY early, it is still dark. Not many people here on TE would do that. Charming picture. I like the view of the woman behind the baguettes, rather unusual in Asia.

take images of daily life with personages in a good position and sharp is a difficult task, but at night the challenge is worst. you got a marvelous visual effect here with the rusticity of the market and an excellent quality.
