Photographer's Note

Deep in thought: This past week saw the celebration of Thingyan in Myanmar. This four-day festival marks the beginning of the Burmese New Year, as well as the end of the dry season and the coming of the monsoon. I travelled by train to Mandalay to see how they celebrate the event up there. It was a riot of boozing, dancing and spraying water, all done in remarkably good spirits. The festival is also celebrated in Thailand, where it is known as Songkran.

Over the next week or so I'll post photos of Mandalay's Thingyan celebrations.
