Photographer's Note

This is Vietnam. I'll tell you why.

Split personality is the title I chose because when I took this picture I was thinking about the contrast in the faces of these two schoolchildren. One looked very Vietnamese and very serious with his eyeglasses. The other looked like a mixed Western and Eastern blood and had this playful look. The boy in the foreground is what we see of Vietnam. Very Asian, seriously pursuing a goal: that of becoming an economic pwoerhouse in South East Asia. But behind that facade is the playful Vietnam: a mix of French and Asian colors are evident in its people and architecture. Very artsy, I found Vietnam as a place of leisure. Looking at the many faces of the country is , in itself, a very relaxing experience. Yes, Vietnam, in my opinion, has a split personality, but it is exactly that feature that makes it very charming.

The picture was taken in the war museum. Schoolchildren having an educational fieldtrip, I suppose.

USM (Luko's version). 50 mm was set at 1.8 f-stop.
