Photographer's Note

This is one of many photos I have posted here of which I could say that it doesn't show anything special, I just kind of like it anyway.

I was crossing this street in Vienna, looking right to watch out for cars, when I just had to stop in the middle of the street (there were no cars) to take a quick shot of the green railing, the grass growing between the cobbled stones, the flower pots and the green coat the woman was handing her daughter. I also noted several red details that appealed to me. I generally enjoyed the neatness of the street and the entrance of the school and the atmosphere among the small group of people.

This is in a district of Vienna called Josefstadt, just west of the old centre of the city. It's just a few blocks away from the wide streets and huge buildings signaling the power of a long gone empire, today crowded with tourists, and in spite of the short distance this is so much more quiet and "ordinary". I liked this almost "tourist-free" area much better than the crowded central district.

"Volksschule", literally meaning "people's school", comprises the first four years in the Austrian educational system.
