Photographer's Note

I took this photo while on the short ferry ride from Pag Island (we had just left Novalja) back to the mainland, on our way to Slovenia. I had forgotten about this picture, but when I recently came across it I thought "wow! It is just so blue!"

The Croatian landscape is almost moon-like in places. It is very wind-swept, and so in unsheltered places, only shrubs can really take hold in the rocky soil. This makes for a white, barren landscape over many places, which is starkly beautiful. There is a wisp of a cloud, and the shadows of another, but I think that these really add to the image. And the title is somewhat misleading, because if you look closely enough, there is a little fleck of white in the middle of the deep blue sky: the moon! Enjoy!
