Photographer's Note

The Town Hall Square or "Raekoda Plats" with its terraces, restaurants and kiosks, is one of the most active places in the lower part of the city. The square is closed on its southern side by the City Hall (Raekoda) which today is one of the few civil buildings is Gothic style that is preserved in Northern Europe.

On the building of the town hall rises an octagonal tower of 61 meters and is inspired by the style of the Islamic minarets and to which at the beginning of the XVII century a baroque needle was added, crowned by a banderole, in which a soldier was represented medieval, popularly known by the nickname "Vana Toomas" ("the soldier Tom嫳") and which is a symbol of the city. Today a copy replaces the original banderole that is kept in the Municipal Museum.

Inside the City Hall building you can visit some rooms. On the first floor, the Civic Assemblies Room or the Council Room, which also served as the court of justice and which preserves the original wooden seats of the members of the Council.

In the northeast corner of the square, at number 11, there is the Raeapteegi hoone, a pharmacy founded in 1422 and which remained as such until 1996. In its interior some jars and utensils of the period related to the pharmacy are exhibited.

La plaza del Ayuntamiento o "Raekoda Plats" con sus terrazas, restaurantes y quioscos, es uno de los lugares con m嫳 actividad de la parte baja de la ciudad. La plaza est cerrada en su lado meridional por el Ayuntamiento (Raekoda) que hoy es uno de los pocos edificios civiles es estilo g鏒ico que se conserva en Europa del Norte.

Sobre el edificio del ayuntamiento se levanta una torre octogonal de 61 metros y est inspirada en el estilo de los minaretes isl嫥icos y a la que a comienzos del siglo XVII se le a鎙di una aguja barroca, coronada por una banderola, en la que se represent un soldado medieval, conocido popularmente con el sobrenombre de "Vana Toomas" ("el soldado Tom嫳") y que es un s璥bolo de la ciudad. Hoy una copia sustituye a la banderola original que se guarda en el Museo Municipal.

En el interior del edificio del Ayuntamiento se pueden visitar algunas salas. En el primer piso la Sala de las Asambleas C癉icas o la Sala del Consejo, que serv燰 adem嫳 como tribunal de justicia y que conserva los asientos de madera originales de los miembros del Consejo.

En la esquina Nordeste de la plaza, en el nmero 11, est la Raeapteegi hoone, una farmacia fundada en 1422 y que permaneci como tal hasta 1996. En su interior se exponen algunos tarros y utensilios de la 廧oca relacionados con la farmacia.
