Photographer's Note

Lagoon blues? No, it's only the beginning of holidays for that marmot, now that September has come. Now marmots can bask in the sun, on the banks of the Lac du Lauvitel(1500m), after their morning frolics. That lake is probably the most popular in Oisans, in the Alps, and the shoals of beach attendants are the summer condition to enjoy its wonderful colors, from gold to blue as the day fathoms its incredible depths.

It was created by the collapsing of a part of the Rochail(3022m), near l'H廨iti鋨e. And the aftermath turned into a retrieved Eden, with the ancient boulders crowded by marmots.

Those are not quite what you'd expect a marmot to be. Marmots are almost (or completely, IMO) blind, and their reputation of shyness can be challenged easily here, when holidaymakers have surged back. Because it's their keen sense of smell which makes marmots so hard to approach. Here I think the air is filled with the scent of men's stuff, suncreams and bizkits, so it's hard to miss the "lagoon racoon" on the rocks. Nice coktail anyhow :)

If you thought marmots were too timid for a close enquiry, check the WS, shot in the morning, same place.
