Photographer's Note

This is the famous church of St. Nikolai. Built by Graf Adolf III in 1195, was already in the 14th century that has ended.
In 1842 he suffered a major fire. In World War II, Hamburg was heavily bombed, and the church was almost destroyed. Curiously, the only part that survived was the tower that we see here.
Within the church we can still see ruins and testimony depicting the war.
In 1987 was founded the institution "St. Nikolai Memorial" which remembers the victims and persecution in World War II.
You can go up an elevator to the top of the tower, which offers a superb view over the center of Hamburg, and Speicherstadt, the Old Port of Hamburg ...

Hope you enjoy!
