Photographer's Note

I spotted this Harlequin like statue, in Hamburg, Germany. Apparently there are many of them all over the city and its something of a local mascot. I have darkened the overexposed bg in the top left corner and lightened the fg statue which was in deep shade. More info here:

"Hans Hummel (real name Johann Wilhelm Bentz) was one of the last water carriers in Hamburg around the mid-nineteenth century, when most people now had access to their own water supply. Apparently local kids would taunt him 'Hummel ... Hummel!' which means hermit crab (or bumble-bee, anyway, means someone who is anti-social). His usual response to them was 'Mors' (arse). Why Hans Hummel came to represent Hamburg, I have no idea."
