Photographer's Note

Those of you who have seen many of my photos know that I like to include people whenever possible. Well, this time I also found a horse.

These statues don't really belong together. The white figures are placed on the roof of Vilnius Cathedral, whereas the dark man shows Grand Duke Gediminas, founder of Vilnius in 1323. His statue was erected in Cathedral Square as recently as 1996.

Vilnius Cathedral was originally built in the 15th century but has been rebuilt a number of times. It got its present look at the end of the 18th century. While Lithuania was a part of the Soviet Union the Cathedral was used as an art gallery, according to my guide book. It was reconsecrated in 1989.

To get a better idea of the cathedral and the square beside it you can have a look at the workshop photo.
