Photographer's Note
27 January was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This duo of Auschwitz Death Camps is a sobering and depressing place and this is an apt upload, with a message that can never be repeated often enough. More so with the generally poor quality of world leaders today, it's a timely reminder of what happens when people cave in to the wishes of the ruling politicians without question.
This is Auschwitz II camp looking back towards the smaller but equally sinister Auschwitz I camp with its 'work makes free' sign. I've loaded it as a workshop.
I had another shot without people and the 'frei' part with a blue sky bg, but the shot with people in it is in hindsight a stronger one.

Hello Chris,
It's a good composition, but compositions don't mean much in a place like this. Very soon the last survivors of this period will be gone, so it's important to keep the memory of these atrocities alive. It would be foolish to think they could not be repeated.
Kind regards,
Gert
PS Thanks for your comments on my photo today. I made a lot of adjustments to the colours to make it acceptable.

Hello Chris,
We must remember this dark page in history in the hope that it will not happen again.
But it must also encourage us to combat the misery that still prevails today.
Excellent picture
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Bonjour Chris,

Hello Chris,
The w/s may be more animated but as a cold reminder of the horrific purpose of Auschwitz, this wagon with its chilling title really hits home! You can imagine this wagon, rumbling steadily along the track, delivering its occupants to the awaiting camp gates!
One can only imagine the terror that was felt!
A 90 year old Jew, one of the lucky children, sent to England as the Nazis began victimising the Jews, still travels around schools explaining the horror of that time and how judging people by race or colour can have devastating results!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Ciao Chris

A sad place, of course, but important to be remembered. The picture was very well managed, showing the texture of the wooden train and the details of the track. Very well done, congratulations!

Hi Chris
you know, i had a conversation with a colleague a few months ago about Auschwitz...can you believe it - he actually tried to convince me that "it wasn't as bad as its reported", tried to convince me the IS soldiers actually treated the prisoners with respect, and they got along well. OMG - i was shocked. what's wrong with people! your photo is a strong one, creative too, have a strong fg and bg. good one. cheers

Hello Chris,
You had a great idea for the composition, but the right side is cropped too tightly. I would like to see the whole of the railroad car. It is still a powerful image.
Regards,
MT
