Old oil mill of Idanha a Velha a small village of Idanha-a-Nova sound asleep in that time but whose past history had witnessed the importance of a cathedral and countless ruins, turning it into a live museum, is one of the twelve classified Historical Villages of Portugal
Idanha-a-Velha was the capital of the civitas Igaeditanorum, the ancient Roman Egit滱ia seems to have been founded by Augustus.
Various people who have had Idanha-a-Velha - - left many historical monuments which constitute a rich historical heritage.
Here we find traces dating from different periods, such as the prehistoric, Celtic, Roman Classicism, Swabians, Visigothic, Arabic, Portuguese and medieval buildings of the period Manueline.
Those who visit the humble village today will feel an outdoor museum where great civilizations still claim the traces they left behind, to see the pace we have difficulty imagining peace that we find in the ancient and flourishing capital of the Civitas Igaeditanorum
