Monsanto (o Monsanto da Beira) es una fregues燰 portuguesa de Idanha-a-Nova.
Es popularmente conocida como "aldea m嫳 portuguesa de Portugal".

Monsanto se encuentra en la cuesta de una gran elevaci鏮 escarpada, llamada Cabe蔞 de Monsanto (Mons Sanctus). Se sita al Noreste de Idanha-a-Nova e irrumpe repentinamente del valle. En el punto m嫳 alto su pico alcanza los 758 metros. La presencia humana en este lugar data del paleol癃ico. La arqueolog燰 dice que el lugar fue habitado por los romanos, Tambi幯 existen vestigios de presencia visig鏒ica y 嫫abe.

Un grave accidente en el siglo XIX destruy su Castillo medieval, por la explosi鏮 del almac幯 de municiones.

Esta es la Capilla de Santa Maria do Castelo, ubicada dentro del recinto de las ruinas del castillo.

Monsanto (or da Beira Monsanto) is a Portuguese parish of Idanha-a-Nova.
It is popularly known as the "most Portuguese village of Portugal. "

Monsanto is in the slope of a very steep rise, called Cabe蔞 de Monsanto (Mons Sanctus). It is situated northeast of Idanha-a-Nova and breaks suddenly the valley. At the highest point its peak reaches 758 meters. Human presence here dating from the Paleolithic. Archaeology said that the place was inhabited by the Romans, there are also traces of Visigoth and Arab presence.

A serious accident in the nineteenth century its medieval castle destroyed by the explosion of the ammunition store.

This is the Chapel of Santa Maria do Castelo, situated within the precincts of the castle ruins.
