Photographer's Note

This is the Alqueva, the big lake that has been planned to give the necessary water to the south of the country and to produce electricity. Its the biggest artificial lake in Europe and its really worthy a visit. There are two enterprises organising boat tours. It can take one hour, four or five hours or even a whole day, depends on you. You can pass near Aldeia da Luz or even see the shapes of the castles of Mour緌 and Monsaraz, both situated on the top of a hill. In the middle of the lake, youll find many small islands. On the banks its possible to see cork trees and the olive trees Mediterranean vegetation and also some country houses. If youre thinking about going, try to be there to watch the sunset thats really something. And if you have a good camera, dont forget it also, youll need it for sure. The landscape is great, it gets really nice colours at sunset and youll find lots of birds!
