Photographer's Note

The Aya Sophia was built at the direction of Emperor Justine in the 6th century and has served as Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic Church -- and for nearly 1000 years the largest in the world - until St Peters basilica was built. In 1453 the Ottoman Empire conquered Constantinople and renamed it Istanbul and at this point Sleyman the Magnificent turned the then Church into a mosque added the minarets and changed the name to Aya Sofia.

Three days of wet weather resulted in this unique perspective of one of the world's greatest structures.
