Photographer's Note

When in Rome, I made many photos of basilicas and other churches, in France there were Gothic cathedrals, so you can easily guess that in Istanbul I went to as many mosques as possible. Every visitor goes to Hagia Sphia and Blue Mosque, so they are crowded all the time. Hagia Sophia has restoration works inside, so it is difficult to make photos, and in Blue Mosque the are for visitors is rather small.

Sehzade lies outside the usual route and you can have the whole mosque for yourself. this is the typical interior of the Turkish mosque. There is very big dome surrounded by smaller one. There is big chandelier hanging from the top of big dome. The whole surface is covered by soft carpet so it is nice to step barefoot.

Wikipedia:
The Sehzade Complex was commissioned by Sleyman the Magnificent to commemorate his favorite son Sehzade Mehmed (1520-1543 CE / AH 924-950) upon his early passing in 1543. Twenty-two years old at the time of his death, Sehzade Mehmed was killed while returning to Istanbul after a victorious military campaign in Hungary. Mehmed was the eldest son of Sleyman's only legal wife Hrrem (Roxelana)and before his untimely death he was primed to accept the sultanate following Sleyman's reign. Sleyman is said to have personally mourned the death of Mehmed for forty days at his temporary tomb in Istanbul, the site upon which famed imperial architect Sinan (1490-1588 CE / AH 895-996) would quickly construct a lavish mausoleum to Mehmed as one part of a larger funerary klliye, or mosque complex, dedicated to the princely heir. The mosque complex was Sinan's first imperial commission and ultimately one of his most ambitious architectural works, even though it was designed early in his long career.
