Photographer's Note

Duatepe Aniti (which I think is '2 Hill Monument' in English?... Edit... It's Prayer Hill Monument) is a national war memorial commemorating the Battle of Sakarya in 1921 between the advancing Greek Army and the victorious Turkish forces led by Ataturk, depicted here looking west towards the Sakarya river. The battle took place in the area of the Sakarya River near Polatli. The nearest large town is Polatli, which is also where you can get a taxi to Gordion Museum & the tumuli of the father of King Midas.

I have loaded a shot of the smaller town of ネkirdeksiz which is much closer, and another workshop showing an overview of the impressive monument. Many older Turks today lament that this game changing and crucial battle is unknown and not taught in schools. The battle was part of the Turkish War of Independence. Another new location in Trekearth!
