Photographer's Note

Not many travellers make it to this poor Islamic part of the world, but it is full of delightful surprises. Stepping into Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, is like stepping back a thousand years and into a giant work of art. This is the one place on Earth that has made the deepest impression upon my memory.

This shot over the rooftops still leaves me with a sense of wonder. For me, the mysterious fabric of Yemeni society was a pure joy to unravel, strand by strand, revealing just a tiny window into the meaning of life for such a beautiful people in such a beautiful land.
