Photographer's Note

Sled dogs travel to races or events by truck in dog boxes. Here they are "dropped" or tied to the truck while waiting for their turn to run.

The short chains serve not only to separate dogs to prevent tangles and to help them conserve energy, but also to ensure that each dog gets its own portion of "soup" before the run. They will be tied here again to cool off afterwards, before hopping back in the box for the trip home.
