Photographer's Note

In countless visits to the Canadian Rockies, there was one park I had yet to visit: Kootenay. To be honest, though Kootenay has reputedly spectacular backcountry, I'd never seen any pictures of the frontcountry that made me want to go out of my way. It's lovely, don't get me wrong. But anything Kootenay's frontcountry has, odds are Banff, Jasper, or Yoho has it better.

But if you're going to visit a place like this for the first time, you could do much worse than visiting on a sunny day after a heavy snowfall. This was taken on Highway 93, just after what I thought was the prettiest part of the drive. I'll have to go back in the summer and do some more exploring.
