Photographer's Note

The Gulf of Georgia Cannery is situated at the mouth of the Fraser River in Steveston, British Columbia, a few miles south of Vancouver. Operated by Parks Canada, the cannery is a historic site that celebrates the fishing and canning activities on the Fraser River from the 1890's to the latter part of the 20th century.

The Cannery museum and complex of buildings house over 10,000 objects, including canning machinery dating back to 1900. The structures are of wood frame construction and rest largely on wooden pilings.

Working fishboats dock around the cannery area still, many of them large craft that ply the waters of both the Gulf of Georgia and the heavy seas off Vancouver Island.
