Victoria Waterfront

Heres another impression of a relaxed afternoon in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia (BC), which is located on Vancouver Island. Seen in this picture are the Inner Harbour, the Empress Hotel and Government Street.

Victoria, named for Queen Victoria and founded by British settlers in 1843, has been the capital of BC ever since it became the sixth Canadian province in 1871. The city has got about 86,000 inhabitants and is located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island.

The Fairmont Empress Hotel opened in 1908 and was built in Ch漮eauesque style. Developed by the Canadian Pacific Railway company, it is one of Canadas grand railway hotels. Its style and design looks very similar to those of the hotels the Fairmont Ch漮eau Frontenac in Qu嶵ec and the Fairmont Ch漮eau Laurier in Ottawa.
