Photographer's Note

I've never managed to take a proper shot of a shot of a flying bird before, mostly due to the annoying delay on my digital camera.

This was taken on a beach on the West Coast Trail, which is a gruelling 75 km hike on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
About a third of the trail can be hiked on the beach. At the mouth of one of the rivers that we had to cross by cable car, there were thousands of sea gulls sitting on the beach. Obvously, as I hiked past them, they all got spooked and started to fly away.

I think they look fake in this picture - like a painting - thus the "plastic gulls" title.

This is completely unaltered, except for the regular file resizing.
