Photographer's Note

I have taken this picture in Kootenay National Park, Canada.
A moose is carefully watching her two cubs while they are trying to cross the river, which is too deep for them.
They attempted several times, trying to reach their mother waiting for them on the other side of the river, and then, when they were no longer able to keep their legs on the ground, and they were about to be taken away by the stream, they turned back to reach the safe shore.
Then her mother joined them back, licked them lovely, and moved back again on the other side of the river showing them how to cross it.
She was very patient.
They attempted for at least half an hour, and then they gave up.
Here is when they just turned back again after the stream was taking them, after one of the many attempts.

Then, the morning after, we saw the whole family safe on the other side of the river. So they managed to cross it, in the end.
It was a very interesting and lovely scene, with many cars stopped along the road which runs near the river.

Scan from a Velvia 50 color slide.
