The Town Hall, a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

It was really a nice surprise to arrive at that tiny square of the Chora settlement at the top of the rock and discover that most beautiful town hall. Very different in style from the traditional flat roofed white houses, it features some neoclassical elements that fortunately were well preserved by the local authorities. Unfortunately there wasn't much space to allow for a better capture. I did some cloning of those very disturbing power lines but I preferred to leave the noise in the sky as I thought that it added to it.

πολύ καλό και Ελληνικό το σκηνικό μπροστά από το Δημαρχείο της Σερίφου με το μπλέ και το άσπρο να κυριαρχούν και τα τραπεζάκια να έχουν καλύψει τον ελεύθερο χώρο..Ήθελα να ήξερα ο Δήμαρχος σταματάει για κανένα ουζάκι και μετά πάει στο γραφείο του;

When I see shots like this my heart yearns to be back in Greece.
Wonderful capture, superb POV and composition. The blue elements in frame contrast so well against the white.
I see from the other comments that the noise in the top of frame has been noticed. How did that happen???

Argiris, wonderful indeed, a fantastic composition with great color and detail. The shadows indicate it was shot mid day and I don't know that a polarizer would have done much but I think that maybe closing down a half stop or so would have given more definition to the dome in the left rear. It is a great shot anyway and the scene itself is somewhere that begs a visit. Fine capture.

this is splendid!I love the repetition of the blue chairs along the street and their perfect harmony with the roofs and the doors!White and blue from Greece,even the sky is white and blue!The yellow of the house and of the chair add a colour to better catch the eyes!There is 1 detail that I like very much,this is the softness of the white wall of the church!Wonderful!

I have to say that the pixelation in the sky is quite distractive, I find it takes away quite a lot from this otherwise charming image. I see that you wanted to include the yellow building in the frame in full, but may be a tighter crop would avoid the wires and, consequently, the noise.
other than that, as I said - charming image, the combination of white and blue and sun pouring in the square create a nice feeling of a relaxed afternoon.

Although the upper part of the picture is a bit strange, I really like the whole image, with pretty adequate sharpness, excellent exposure, wonderful colors! Here we have a stage waiting for the actors! It has all the characteristics of a perfect Cycladic 'plateia'. Wonderful clear colours appear even brighter against the pure white walls. I like the square format - it suits the square shape of the Town Hall.

I would give my honest opinion for this post here.

If I look for this capture for any OE, it would perhaps be at the roof under the blue dome and the wall of the building, but due to the generally bright light and reflection off the white painted surface, the overall bright and cheerful look of the colors. Perhaps I would try to tone down the brightness level -10% and gamma -10% to see if it works better?

I am fine with the noise. And I agree with you, this is a fine architecture for a town hall this size.

I like this shot of the many tables and chairs awaiting the crowds of summer visitors. It is nearly, but not quite, over-exposed in the strong light, and in fact the many white surfaces have been well controlled and remain detailed. Your composition is actually very good, with a nice angle of view leading the eye to the blue cupola on the left. The square close crop works well. I would prefer it without the noise in the sky, but it's hardly important. This photo makes me feel very nostalgic about my visit to the Greek Islands during the Greek Easter time many years ago, when the light seemed already very strong, and I realised that in Summer it would be very hot.

Hello Argiris,
looks like the two main colours of Greece are: blue and white! they make such a fine combination that, maybe, can serve as a symbol of the country?
I admire the composition in this photo, and the right angle which you chose to take the photo!
Concerning the noise in the sky, if it were not for your explanation of it in the Note, I would say I might want to reduce it.
Unfortunately in our modern times it is absollutely impossible to avoid including power lines and ugly street lamps in photos :( So it's either we clone them out or - leave them as they are...
In any case, it's a very beautiful, refreshing, cheerful view :)
