Photographer's Note

Hi All.

This is Creek Street in the town of Ketchikan, our first stop in Alaska.
We were told this used to be the red light district and the houses had escape hatches in the lower floor for a quick getaway should it be needed. These hatches were again used during prohibition for smuggling in hooch. Not too sure on the truth of all this but it makes a good story for us tourists anyway.
Nowadays these houses have all been converted to souvenir shops and book shops etc. Sue can vouch for the book shop, it took me quite some effort to drag her away!
We were fortunate to be there when the tide was in as this part of the world has a huge tidal swing, over 20 feet at times.

In WS, a pic taken from the far end looking back.

See travelogue for more.

Enjoy,
Paul.
