Catching Up

I was very curious about Detroit. At mentioning the name of the city as one of the destinations of our trip, many wondered whether a visit to this city in decline was wise.
Indeed, in 2013 Detroit became the largest city to file for bankruptcy. In December 2014, the city government regained control of Detroit's finances.
In the weeks before our trip, a few reports about the city's recovery appeared in a Dutch newspaper and on the Dutch radio.
The recovery already clearly visible in Down Town Detroit, but also the suburbs are developing in the right direction was the scope of these reports.
In the next TE presentation I will try to make this recovery visible.
Our impression after the visit is, that Detroit is a city that radiates confidence in the future and gives an optimistic impression.

The name of the statue that is central to this presentation is "Catching Up". Although it was already there before the crisis, it is an appropriate title for the current situation.
The statue was designed by John Seward Johnson Jr. and is located at Grand Circus Park Station, one of Detroit's "People Mover" stations and shows a man relaxed reading a newspaper while he is waiting for the People Mover. The newspapers have been designed according to the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press.
