South-western Bolivia, a photo from Potosi, South

Photographer's Note

I think the south western region of Bolivia, also called South Lipez desert, is one of the most beautiful places in the world. At least the world which I have seen. This place is called Laguna de Polque, and it is a lake at about 4500 meters above sea level, near the Laguna Verde, close to the chilean border.
The lake, as all the lakes in this volcanic area, is filled with salt, algae and other minerals. In addition here there are some hot streams, which create small "rivers" in the lake, melting the salt locally.
This place belongs to a geothermal area, with geysers and hot springs.

This picture was taken at 8 am, while waiting the trip crew to prepare breakfast.
It is a scan from Velvia 50, and it was taken with a Nikon F70 + Nikkor 28-70.

Che posto! Bellissimo, pero la vita non sembra facile in questa zona! Hai inquadrato benissimo con giusto un po di cielo, La luce e colori sono ottimi, e i dettagli sono belli nitidi...

la vostra immagine, bench� vecchia sia superbe. Penso che il paesaggio non debba molto cambiare l� fondo. Si direbbe un'immagine di scienza romanzo, su un'altro pianeta. Lavoro eccellente.

Hi Stefano,
Your photos from Bolivia are stunning and this one is no exception. It's very well composed with good foreground, midground and background interest and the small river does a good job of leading you into the frame. I particularly like the texture of the salt lake and the contrast with the dark volcanic cones in the distance.
The sky looks to me a bit dark in the central area above the volcano but apart from that the colours and light management are superb.

Hi Stefano, this is an excellent composition. I like the sparse barrenness of this place, it's a real moonscape. Veruy unusual. The light bue of the salt complements the darker sky blue very well. Good work!
