    hi craig,
abstract architectural photos have always been a passion of mine, and this shot clearly shows what abstracting is all about :)
the lines are mesmerizing, almost hypnotic - I like the dark-to-light gradient guiding the eye from left to right, but most of all I love the sinuous curves that turn a concrete structure into something almost organic.
    Great shot!

    hi Gyur,

I can see you use Silver Efex as well to post-process your images - I can only say that so far this is the only plug-in that gives me the range of b/w tones I really like.
I love the rich contrast of this night photo and the vertical composition that is reinforced by the towering building in the back. The alternating black and white areas really make it a balanced image.
    Have a good weekend,

what? Granada? I thought it never rained in Andalucia! :)
I am just reading a novel set in Granada in 1492, at the end of the Moorish domination - well, I read many similar novels and each time it's like I am back there, amazed by the sound of water in the gardens, the smell of jasmine, under the sun, up and down the Albaicin...
anyway - I like very much the calm play of the various patterns - the stripes of the umbrella, the chequered floor, the lacy stockings.
this is one of those pictures where we can read something into a moment captured by the camera - a happy coincidence that you were quick to capture with your camera :)

    hi erdem,

I am not posting very often these days, so it's really nice to see you again :)
Lovely portrait, maybe even more enticing because of the boy's expression, not smiling for the camera or flirting with the photographer... what a serious little man :)

well, I have long given up on staying young (can't defy gravity...), beautiful, well - no beauty salon can give you that, no matter how hard they try... I am already content if I manage to stay healthy, ahahaha :)
anyway - I find the strong alternation of light and darkness in this picture very attractive, like a box in a box in another box...
it's always very satisfying to look at photos where you can see that the author has given the composition the attention it deserves.

    ciao Livia,

    Grazie!

you never need a special reason to add sepia toning - it's like sprinkling chopped herbs on a dish: it enhances the flavours :)
the Quadrophenia-ish wall-art and the bicycle speak of two worlds, I like the contrast and obviously the b/w is the best choice for this kind of image. In my opinion, of course :)

    China..??? you get around... :)
I like very much the tilt, compositionally and metaphorically speaking ;)
great play with reflections and lines, the man in uniform, with his head hanging, is a solitary figure in this hypermodern, empty place that evokes feelings of isolation and indifference.
    or so it seems.
    the power of images :)

I really like this photo, it has something old-fashioned, the softness reminds me of how film used to look like, where the moment was more important than sharpness and pixels...
the line in the middle almost put me off, for a moment I thought the little girl was part of the mural... :)

I have not been in Venice since 2006 and I miss it quite a lot, Venice being my favourite place on this planet. More of a mental landscape really, with its magic of light, water and stones... each year I tell myself I should go again but the hordes of tourists put me off.
The Venice Carnival is surely different from the rest of the country's costume events but these two girls reflect well the way we used to celebrate it when we were kids: the fun of wearing weird outfits and make-up, against the conventions of "adult" society, symbolically represented here by the lady in the lower part of the image.
Surely my mother would have not let me out the door with that skirt, but times have changed since then... :)
PS: I browsed through your website and you have an astonishing collection of photos, I love the monochrome and the people section :)

    Hello Recep,

I used Google translator to understand your note, if I get this right you explain that the photo was taken at a camel racing event - very interesting, it's not the kind of racing that we can see here in Western Europe :)
I like very much the vertical cut, that shows us the people on the wall and the kid at the bottom. I also like the strong b/w, rich in contrast, that really reminds me of analogue black and white photos - you don't see that very often on these pages :)
    Thanks for sharing!

    hi Ann,
looking at the thumbnail I almost thought it was a dress...
I spent this past week reading a biography of British fashion designer Alexander McQueen and the (apparent) lightness of the material and the curves reminds me a lot of some his most elaborate couture dresses.
I love the dark palette you have chosen for the conversion to b/w, it has a lunar, almost sci-fi atmosphere that I find very intriguing.
    Have a nice weekend!

    ciao Klaudio :)

I guess people prefer the static harmlessness of church towers and peaceful valleys than the fleeting moments of life that show us what we are all about or make us question the sense of the things we do... 57 visits and no comments - ah! I'll never get used to it :)
it's a lovely moment that reminds me how easy it used to be to find fulfillment, as a child, in the physical interaction with a parent. confiding in their physical strength to catch us or protect us from harm.
there's no safety anywhere anymore, it seems to me. everything is so exposed - or is it..?

    hello john,
Ann said exactly what I wanted to say - the beautiful clarity of the composition and the reduction to three essential elements (the artist, the background and the spectator), the perfect aperture to show and blur at the same time the lady...
the excellent details of the foreground subject, caught at the right moment complete the picture.
    Lovely street shot indeed!

    Lindisfarne!
as a fan of Bernard Cromwell's saga of Uthred of Bebbanburg I say: thank you for giving an image to a place that in my imagination, book after book, I tried to picture surrounded by Viking ships and battered by the elements...
I agree with Gert that size does matter here - the castle would have almost disappeared in the background in the old days of the 350KB pics... :)

    hahahahahah!
this is a good one :)
I remember how I didn't like westerns when I was younger, somehow I didn't get the slow motions, the delays in the action, the long silences...
then I started watching them in English, and after many years of films and movies I started to appreciate them.
Sergio Leone took westerns into a whole different level - and I only understand that now :)
thanks for this cinematic citation :)

    ciao andrea,

    buon fine settimana!
