To Emiel_Skyfreak: actually it's Makalu

Emiel,

The mountain on the left is actually Makalu. It is also above 8000m and is a very famous mountain in Nepal.

Grzegorz,

Probably too early for me to tell. Given the price (and lightweight), relative to the Nikon 12-24mm, I'm certainly happy. For landscapes (using digital), this is a great zoom focal...

To fayeulle: altitude

Hello!

This photo was taken somewhere between 4900m (the town, Gorkyo) and the summit 5350m of Gokyo Ri.

FYI, I took the shot with a Nikon D70 digital SLR... no scanning needed!

cheers,

To timleahy: alpenglow

Tim - check out the image I posted today... that should explain alpenglow.

Basically at altitude the red spectrum of light from the sun is very visible right before sunset.

cheers,

Dan

To skewedstyle: polarizer and lighting only

The image was just like that. I did use a gaussian blur on the sky to remove some pixelation and noise.

To maurazos: tripod or not tripod... that is the question

I just braced the camera against the front window on the train. I didn't have a tripod because I was just "touristing" the streets of Shanghai.

To pedros: ND filter

Pedro,

The 3-stop hard ND filter is a Singh Ray filter. It can be used to alter exposure (reduce light) without affecting color... ND stands for neutral density.

They are especially helpful in...

To gringofil: expensive restraunt

The name is "M on the Bund". Actually the view is better than the food. :-)
