It must be exhilarating to be closer enough to take a shot like this, and the elephant has a great pose, almost like a courtsey. very cool picture.
One thing i would try would be to crop the bottom and the left of the shot to place the elephant on the lower left third. This draws the eye easier to the elephant. As the light green in Upper right would occupy more space it would brighten up the picture somewhat as well.

Thanks Noel - great inputs. especially the green imagery!
In fact i am buying my first 50mm lens today. Have been using the kit 18-55 so far. Hope that i can upload some photos taken with this prime soon.
