Default problem with raw pics

I am having a problem viewing pictures that I have taken in the RAW mode. I have a canon digital rebel (300 d). I took a number of shots in the raw mode, and I cannot even see the pics in files on my computer using photoshop elements 2.0 I did try taking a few pics and tried to read these RAW photos directly from the memory card from my camera and it will not show up. I can however see these pictures on my camera. I tried searching for .RAW pics or files in photoshop and none appear. Can anyone help me out please?

i'm not that expert in RAW, but this is a new problem? - i mean, in the past you could see the photos?

I'm asking this because i know if that version of photoshop allow you to directly edit raw! you have the canon software right?

Change Raw to Tiff and work the Tiff in Photoshop.

I think you need to upgrade to CS2 or install a plugin whatsoever.

But, as i've said, i'm not that expert... please wait till some guy gives you a second opinion.

You must at least have Photoshop Elements 3.0 or 4.0 software, and then make sure to install the following plug-in:

Camera Raw 3.3

Otherwise you can find free Raw converters in the web, some of which are pretty good such as:

Raw shooter essentials

Elements 2.0 will not look at RAW files, it will convert to JPG by default if you shoot in JPG+RAW, or an uncompatable file if just shot in RAW. I had the same problem so I changed to Elements 4 - the latest version is a breeze to use - converts from RAW to DNG (digital negative) to JPG in a straight forward and easy way and no need to download any plug-ins.

When you bought your camera in the CD pack you have another program by the name of File Viewer Utilty, with this program you can read your RAW files.

Install whichever RAW converter came with your camera, and then upgrade it with Digital Photo Professional 2.0.3 Updater for Windows

You might click Drivers/Software, and then Accept before you can download it though.

Didi is absolutely right. Unlike for Jpeg picture, you need to use a specific software (EOSViewerUtility to name it) to download your RAW pictures from your camera into your computer.

First time I shot RAW, I think I was stuck during two days before understanding why I couldn't simply use the Windows explorer to simply see the files from my camera :D

Enjoy !

Hi Steven,

Just in case you don't know, Windows has a new viewer that could see the RAW files. It is about the same quality of the original viewer (low!) but at least, you could see you pictures! By the way, it is not a program to work your RAW files, just to be able to see them without opening big programs. Here is the link: Windows Raw Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP.
