Somaliland

Somaliland is an independent country in the Horn of Africa. It broke away from what was anyway a non-ratified union with Somalia in 1991, after a vicious civil war in which Somali troops destroyed the capital Hargeisa and killed many many people. The country has rebuilt itself and has conducted three democratic elections which have all been declared free-and-fair by the international observers. The country is peaceful and there is the rule of law.

The country receives unofficial recognition from countries such as the UK, Netherlands and South Africa. It would be nice if Trek Earth could also recognise the existence of this de facto country by including it in the list of African countries.
