Thanks for the critique and workshop Dan. I do like your version.
It was pitch black on the beach, and the only light was from the wax burning! If I recall (the EXIF doesn't say), the ISO was set at 3200 (H.10 on the D200). Shutter was 1/10 and f stop was f5.6. As the focal length was set to 60mm (90mm in 35mm mode), the slow shutter speed is probably the culprit for the lack of sharpness. I have one shot which is much more blurred which (curiously) I like a lot more - more abstract!
Sorry to mislead by the way, you are right about Thai New Year being different (although there were enough "Happy New Year" messages around to believe otherwise), the reference to New Years Eve was in my own time context! I think it is the year 2055 or something in Thailand?
