A smidge over-processed perhaps?

Default To Skorj: The sun

Skorj,
I had to lighten the foreground to compensate for the low pwerfull sun. When you shoot directly into the sun you have to. So if you underexpose when you take the photgraph, the foreground can be easily brought back to life. Hope this helps.

Rob, this is a great photo but it just doesn't look wholly real - i'm not a digital aficionado but i've been doing photography long enough and the only time i've seen light like that over an entire scene (including the part of the wall facing AWAY from the sun) is when there is a large natural reflector (e.g. glass building) which i doubt was present in this graveyard.
So when you talk about 'lightening the foreground' presumably this is what you are referring to; i'm afraid that by my book that is in the realm of substantial digital alteration not 'just' dodging and burning.

Anyway, still like it.

Cheers, Sean

Thanks for your thoughts, but all I can say is it is real. I dont really understand what else it could be. Try using the shadow/highlights tool in most photo editing software, it may help you to understand lighting foregrounds. Also you dont need to have a glass building to brighten up foregrounds, in this photograph I set the exposure to capture the sky and used fill flash to compensate on the foreground. Glad you like though, and try lighting some foregrounds.

Cheers,Roberto
