I hate to break the news to you Elroyie, but there isn't a lens on the market long enough to get a "closeup" of the sun... ;-) My calculation tells me that at maximum length for your lens you are out at about 896 mm with the converter. Perhaps you need to buy one of these zoom lenses.
Humor aside, you did well, in capturing this dramatic image. I find interesting the fact the sun appears to have been compressed from top to bottom, no doubt an illusion created by the earth's atmosphere. The colors, of course, are very stunning, created unfortunately, as you note, but air pollution. This is one of those rare occasions when we can be grateful for all that particulate matter... ;-)

Thank U for the detailed note, this is the cheapest solution for increasing the focal length of the lens (and the lighter one...) and it is not bad at all (I think).
