Ahh the old question. I bought the 10-20mm years ago for my 30D. But I realised I made a mistake when I got the 5D, as I couldn't use the 10-20mm on it. That's the problem with those EFS lenses, you can't use them on a full-frame SLR. The 17-40mm is an L lens. I found its quality to be far superior to the 10-20mm, although not quite as wide. And of course, I can use it on both the 30D and the 5D. I certainly have got my money's worth out of it, and use it almost as much as I use the 24-105mm. That's my 2 cents' worth anyway  Hope it helped.Have a happy day Lisa
