Great PaulVDV 2021-06-25 10:13

Hello Gert,
Beautiful combination of a post card view and a daily life scene with the workman in the foreground.
You have been able to add the name of the construction company at the bottom so that you can request some sponsorship :)
I note that Saint Jacob's church and Saint James's Church are one and the same church.
I still remember this one from my trip.
Good that you can eat the fish from these waters. In the 1970s, most of our rivers were dead. The situation has since improved considerably. Fish and other animals are living in and around our rivers again, but recently we received a warning not to consume fish that we caught ourselves...
Best regards, Paul

Talking To PaulVDV: Slugs vs snails

Hi Paul,

Snails - with shells- are not so bad, disgusting are slugs.
In France, and probably in Belgium, Helix pomatia, escargot are eaten. I ate it in France and it was OK. Many of them are imported from Poland. The original range of occurrence of this snail in Poland probably covered only southern Poland. It was moved to other areas by man. The monks (including the Cistercians) contributed most to this, and from the Middle Ages grew a vineyard in monastery gardens and parks. They used the meat of this snail to supplement a low-protein diet during long fasts, because, like fish, snails were considered fasting.
And do you like Belgium delicacy- Moules marini鋨es?
Have a nice week
Malgo

Default Slugs

Hi Malgo

I saw a sign in the street today that might amuse you. "Slugs are really divorced snails which didn't get the house".

The nudibranchs are the nicest slugs. They live in the sea and are brightly coloured.
