Lost in an ocean of sand, a photo from Illizi, Inland

Photographer's Note

This picture was taken on our first day in the Sahara, in the South of Algeria. We had left Djanet and its oasis to go to the region of Tadrart, well-know for its famous red dunes.

It was so exciting to discover the desert I had always dreamt of, full of dunes of sand, as far as your eye can see.

You leave Paris, its pollution and stress, and on a brand new year (I arrived in Algeria on January 2nd), after only a few hours flight, and a couple of hours drive, you're in the middle of nowhere, in a complete different world, and you're hoping it's not just a dream...

This is an amazing feeling !

Nice shot with good clean lines. The atmosphere is conveyed well with the soft light, and great shadows. The placement of the jeep is a good compositional aid. Good shot and well delivered.

Bonsoir Emmanuelle. tr鋊 belle image propice au r瞚e et � l'aventure. J'aime ici la gestion de la lumi鋨e et les contrastes avec les zones d'ombres. Bien s壜, la texture et la couleur du sable, dans le d廥ert, sont toujours tr鋊 esth彋iques. La voiture est un peu trop centr嶪 pour mon go壻, et la photo gagnerait donc � 皻re rogn嶪 en bas, � mon avis.

Another great shot!

This one really caught my eye as a thumbnail. The composition makes the foreground very strong, which works well with the subject matter being located in the foreground. The gradation of the midframe dunes leads the eye to the dark around the Land Cruiser, another great compositional element. The background stays subordinate to the foreground yet brings out some really great depth and context for this shot. You used the great light really well to set a relaxed and beautiful mood in this picture. My only suggestion would be to crop a tiny bit off of the right side of the frame to remove the highlighted rock that draws some unnecessary attention to itself.

Une image qui pourrait illiustrer les catalogues des tours op廨ators! J'aime ce 4x4 qui semble surgir de nul part, entour� de tout ce sable rouge. C'est vraiment magnifique et 蓷 me rappelle mon s嶴our dans le Sahara (il y a bien longtemps!).

une tr鋊 belle image de d廥ert, ce qui me plait le plus ce sont les diff廨ences de rendu de sable.
Concernant la composition, elle est bonne, seul la position du 4x4 me g瘽e un peu.
J'aurai aim� le voir se dirig� soit sur la droite si il restait � sa position. Soit d廧lac� la voiture dans le champ � droite.
Tout cela pour laisser de l'espace devant la voiture...

Mais cela reste une belle photo qui ferait le bonheur d'un constructeur auto ;)

A classic jeep in the desert shot. The light is good and give fine shade to the dunes. I think your pov is fine too giving a diagonal layout of the tracks and the jeep. It would be even better if you had cleaned up a bit around the edges, I will show you.

Quelle belle photo. Les nombreuses ondulations des dunes cr嶪nt une bonne profondeur de champ et le 4x4 ajoute un petit quelque chose. J'appr嶰ie aussi la lumi鋨e et la texture du sable qui est bien visible. Bon travail.

I like the texture of the desert with this kind of light. Maybe the 4x4 is not int he best place for a better composition.

After seeing your nice collection of desert pictures, I came to the conclusion I like this picture the most. May be because of the contrast between car (modern life) and desert (eternity. And I love the compo and the colours.
