It's been more than 5 years since a photo from Angola was posted on TE. Time for an update.

Looking at 20-year old photos from Luanda far back in the TE gallery shows just how much of a transformation this city has gone through since the end of the civil war. The proud fortress has also now been renovated.

Have a look at this photo from 2008, for instance. You can clearly recognize the pink national bank to the left and the yellow building to the right (behind the yellow skyscraper in my photo). But other than that, it looks like a completely different city. Also check out this one from 2007, which has about the same crop as my own.


Notes from the day, June 20, 2019:

"With the camera as my ammunition, this day was in the sign of photography. I felt almost like a burglar as I entered the fortress passing a closed gate on the backside. With a beautiful view of the city and the bay, it should be worth climbing just a little bit higher up the hill. Eventually, I made it to the right entrance. The fortress was well maintained. Beautiful view in all directions.

After the visit to the fortress, I walked down to the city center and followed the bay promenade all the way to the same ferry terminal I had been running to the day before. On the way back, I kept my camera warm along the promenade. The sunset was, like the two previous sunsets, of superb quality."
