Photographer's Note

This is a Strange """Soviet""" type of monument in Luanda. Thanks to Bjorn for the info on the monument.
The monument is the grave of Angola's first president, President Agostino Neto, who had very strong communist affiliations. Neto died in 1979 and I have understood that it was given to the Angolan people as a gift from the Soviet Union ( not sure on this).

Unfortunately is the only "magnificent" work there since the rest is half old houses, half slum areas. The picture was taken from the old Portuguese fortress. The city itself of Luanda has some very Strong contrasts - of DeBauer ( aka the Diamond merchant)Shining glass 20 floor building, right besides a bay area full of plastic bottles, bags, sewer.
The Country has a lot of potential and capacity ( Oil, Diamonds , Tourism) but the Existing gouvernment is only interested in filling their own pocket.
Example -there's no money to repair the sewage system -BUT- at the time I was there the government and National assembly had given themselves the Authorization to buy 400 Porsche SUV...

So yes the picture shows the potential of Angola and their people, but also the greed to maintain the population in the limit of living conditions...

Technicalities:
Software: GIMP
Contrast level raised
Sky -Gaussian blur applied
rest of image - sharpen
