one chief's arrival to the ceremony, a photo from Centre-Sud, East

Photographer's Note

Lo (Tiebele, Nahouri district, Centre-South region of Burkina-Faso).

A month ago, when I came back from Africa, I posted children of Lo.
The present photo set in the same place, a few minutes before the photo session with the children.

Indeed, this man is one of the villages' chiefs. The town of Lo is made up of 8 villages, each one has a chief.
All of them have come to the ceremony given to us to have bring school stationeries to the school.

The Kassena people (also called Gourounsi), who live between the south of Burkina and the north of Ghana still have chiefs at the head of their villages. A chief is called "P�". He has no real administrative power, he just watch over the respect of the traditions and the ancient customs. He also watch over the questions of religion.
His office is handed down from father to son.

Hello Yannis,
Very beautiful daily life - picture. I do understand this man was dressed up for the ceremony. But ceremonies are also part of the daily life.
The less colours in nature, the more in the clothes that people wear.

Je ne savais pas que tu 彋ais all� en Afrique dans ce cadre, cela a du 皻re passionnant.
Voil� un vraiment tr鋊 extraordinaire Monsieur et j'aurais eu un grand plaisir � rencontrer.
Quand on choisit ses v皻ements de cette mani鋨e, on a forc幦ent des tas de choses int廨essantes (et humoristiques aussi peut-皻re) � dire. On dirait qu'il a mis sur lui les cadeaux que d'autres europ嶪ns lui ont offert,(� moins que ce ne soit lui qui les ait rapport廥 ou des amis � lui) , c'彋ait en votre honneur sans doute qu'il s'彋ait v皻u ainsi.

Cette photo a parfaitement sa place sur TE. La note explicative est bien instructive. J'aime la tenue et la pose de ce chef de village. Le parapluie est s壜ement un symbole plus qu'un objet utile.

M瘱e si je suis plus attir嶪 par le N/B ces derniers temps, il faut avouer qu'ici les couleurs d'imposaient - quelle 幨嶲ance, ce monsieur qui se balade avec son ombrelle dans un endroit curieusement vide et de couleur si uniforme... je vois pas mal d'humour dans cette image mais beaucoup de chic aussi !
