Photographer's Note
Sal Rei (I have seen it translated as Royal Salt or Salt King) is the capital town of the island of Boa Vista. The name comes of course from salt which once made this island very important, sadly the pirates didn't allow Boa Vista to prosper.
To be honest, if you are into architecture, there is not too much to see on this island. The most interesting are probably two lovely churches, one in Sal Rei (Igreja São Isabel, in this picture) and one in Rabil (Igreja de São Roque). The latter I have passed by but didn't have a chance to take a picture of it because I was driving a quad in a larger group of quads... The quad tour of the north of the island started in Sal Rei so I had some extra time to explore the area around the main street. Igreja São Isabel (in this photo) faces a lovely town square but it was fenced off for construction. I didn't have a chance for a foreground. There was a taxi passing by but I didn't catch it sharp enough. Nobody really walked around the town, well to be fair it was the Easter Sunday. In the end I mixed up some of the camera settings, my camera has a touchscreen which too often changes settings when I touch it accidently. In the result I recorded this photo underexposed by three stops. Luckily, I managed to get something out of it working hard on the raw file.
I mentioned there is not too much of the architecture on Boa Vista but I really loved this island and my impressions were all positive both in regard to the beauty of this place (I love deserts) and the kindness of the local people.

Hello Mariusz,
This building does look very attractive with the white walls and the blue decoration. Blue and white always seem really clean!
By choosing this angle, you have been able to give us an idea of the depth of the church, which would not have been possible from a symmetrical, front view.
It's a fine, sharp exposure.
I cannot help thinking that such an attractive building could be better maintained - just a bit of white paint.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Mariusz,
Although a tourist destination, there is some outback feeling on this street corner. Architecture of the church is nice but buildings around it give impression that there's not much else. I have visited Sal island and would imagine Boa Vista has about the same ambience.

Hello Mariusz,
A clear Portuguese influence can be recognised here in the design of the church. Its white façade with blue around the edge looks very nice and you captured the two quite low twin towers from a good angle. Fine light and and nice blue sky as well.

Hello Mariusz, an unusual looking church, just a pity that it could do with a ‘lick’ of paint so as to tidy it up.
Taken from a good angle, which tells us so much more that a view face on.
I know nothing about Cape Verde, so I am looking forward to seeing more of your shots.
Kind regards, Jean.

Ciao Mariusz, your photo sent me to browse through my old dusty albums to rekindle the memories, and I found this photo of the church of Sal Rei, the colors have changed and so has the building on the right. I gave you a WS while I was there, I swear that I will not do others also because the quality is really bad, thanks for bringing me back one of the few architectural attractions of Boavista. Have a nice evening! Luciano

I am surprised you visited this same square before. I guess the new painting in blue is better than the other. the colonial style of the church was damaged by the rebuildings as I can see. anyway you got a marvelous view of it.
sal island is used as a information base for brazilian planes going to europe, from brazil to there there are nothing. sal island is near boa vista.
take care

Hello Mariusz,
In your note you warn twice that visitors should not expect too much in terms of architecture. It is a pity, but perhaps there are many picturesque corners to be seen. For me, therefore, they do not have to be a hugely impressive building from a past or present history.
This church is already a beautiful example of a place of interest. It comes across very Portuguese. Of course normal.
The cobblestones add to the charm but the building immediately to the right of the church is a let down.
You clearly had beautiful sunny weather.
I also like Luciano's old photo in the WS.
Best regards, Paul

Hello my dearest friend and have a nice day
and a happy evening
the church is all white and eye-catching
with simple architectural details
but the buildings around seem
to have no interest about...

Hello Mariusz.
You have achieved an impressive photo of this simple church, due to the proximity of the foreground and I think that with the correction of the lens, to achieve that perfect verticality, the white and blue stand out very well from the background of the sky.
Nice photo of the church with the girls in the foreground shown in the WS.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and magnificent composition; They are managed perfectly, in this beautiful image.
Nice job. I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Mariusz
well perhaps you are showing us here the most photogenic building in the town, sounds like it. Interesting how the front is pretty good, but the sides need alot of work and attention. interesting to see the condition of the street itself too. I'd be very curious to see the interior. anyways, its a nice shot of the only good building in town :) cheers

Hello Mariusz,
It is a charming church building. A little TLC on the paint job and an effort to tidy up the electric wires would result in much improvement.
Regards,
MT
