Photographer's Note
The Abu Simbel site is composed of the Great Temple and the temple of Hathor.
This view, the Sanctuary or "Naos" is taken inside the Great Temple, dedicated to Ramses II.
The 4 statues represents Ramses II and gods.
Before the temple was rebuilt (in 1965 by UNESCO) to save it from flood, two times a year (21 february-Birthday of Ramses and 21 october-Anniversary of his becoming pharaon), 3 of the 4 statues were illuminated by sun rays.
The statue which was never illuminated represents Ptah, the god of.....................Darkness!
