Photographer's Note
Wanted to post the original color shot but clicked the wrong photo so there's the B & W version, my first trial.
Lybian desert (Sahara). a long hot day on a pure light golden sand, heading for this lone dune behind where other beduins had settled the camp.

I am very impressed by your "desert work", and this picture is fantastic. I love the diagnoal composition here - you have also framed your subject very well.
I think B&W works very well for the silhouettes of camels, but I would love to see the colour version to get the subtly changing shades of the sand. Great pic!

Excellent shot! I think this is probably your best yet - well done :-D
The only thing I might have done, was run a Gaussian Blur across the sky - it looks slightly blotchy...

Very good! The blotchy sky is apparently caused by the scanning or something else like that - shouldn't be a problem if you want to make a print.

I'm glad you posted the B/W image in error Nina, it's great, reminds me of Laurence of Arabia, wonderful composition.

The long shadows, the chain of camels, and the gaze of the drivers all point with definite purpose towards the lone dune, with a certain attitude that implies fortitude and patience; they understand that this cannot be rushed. The picture is enhanced by the gentle gradient in the sky, and the sharpness of the dune compared to the haziness (mirage?) of the rest of the horizon.

Everything is in the right place and your panorama choice works well for that. The shades give the direction to the little dune. Beautiful caravan enhanced by the man walking in front. Very attractive shot, Nina. (yes, blootchy sky is an evidence in b/w, but I skip it!)

I like the composition and it works best for me in B&W - gives it a certain timelessness ;-)

Beautiful. I like the soft tones and apparent tint of the photo, as well as the panoramic proportions. The near subject to the left leading off toward the far dune in the distance is perfect. Good job.

I don't think color would improve this much, excellent work. (Geez, and I think the US West is barren)..........

Wow! This is your best shot so far. Perfect composition. Leading lines and the sand dunes on the right provides balance. Both versions are great. I would hang this one on my wall.

Salamat !

Nina, this is an INCREDIBLE shot. I mean, everything is perfect here, from your composition to your choice of B&W. I like how the caravan is walking away from the corner of the frame. Striking image.

Wow, toute une photo. L'ombrage est super. J'aurais donné un virage jaunâtre. Beau travail.

The diagonal composition , the shadows and the dune in the far horizon make the impression of a long journey to make. The idea was successfully captured. I do not mind the bw treatment.

I had once seen an oil painting like this. The balances of tones and masses work very well together.

fantastic Nina.. hadn't seen it before. The b&W is perfect. The dessert seems even more endless now than in color.

I'd be interested to see what the colour version is like, but as it stands, this B&W version is superb; I love it.

Fantastic shot.
Great angle.
Trully inspiring crop to leave the right sand hill, as a destination for the camels and our eyes....

I really like this one.
The framing is perfect, even with enough space at bottom to show some traces of the camel.
I really like the contrast between the foreground and the vanishing smooth background
Simply superb!

Just excellent !
the only thing I would have changed is get that young camel out of the frame or behind the others ...
I mean literaly taken him away ...
He makes a little disharmony in the picture but I still love it very much !!!

C'est splendide ! La composition est superbe. La caravane avance précédée de son ombre vers les dunes sur une ligne imaginaire en diagonale, même le vent les pousse !! Très très belle photo ! Félicitations.

Poster perfect shot. I think color won't make better contract than B&W. Very good composition.

I think the B&W works well here, though it is a tad too contrasty. Great image though

The B&W mode is very well choosen.

I think the black and white works well here. Im a big fan of the BW medium for its ability to make line and tone far more powerful, and that carries off well in bleak or bright (like here) situations. Nice photo! Glad you posted the bw one, even if by accident.

Very well composed photo - I like the way that caravan heading for the dune - and shadows from the low sun. The B&W works very fine but I even like the colour version more.

The converging lines of perspective on the camels is just right causing the viewer to look into the picture towards to dunes on the right. The composition is spot on with this image and being in B&W and low key in appearance adds to the overall appearance.

Hello Nina,
I was not really in favour of black and white picutres of the desert, as I love the warm colours of the sand, but today I changed my mind, since this picture is so beautiful !
B&W gives more again the feeling of unreality and the magic of desert. Congratulations!

Nina, this is a very beautiful B&W photo and so timeless. As in all great B&W photos, a few simple elements are combined to great result. The camel train - with single passenger - traversing the diagonal to the dune on the horizon. And the reduction of tones to extremes in order to emphasise the emptiness of the desert. The exposure used is perfect. Of course, it has to be a favourite. Stephen

fantastic shot, hamdullah you clicked another button than you had intended to; a very good marketing material for... maybe also tourists planing to visit the neighbouring Libya? needless to add, Libyans have the most beautiful sea shore I've ever seen and everything constitutes a good equivalent of other things, missing (illegal) there ;-) greets - Tom
