Photographer's Note
This photo was taken in the morning of a beautiful day at Abu Simbel in southern Egypt, near Sudan. This is the most southernmost known major ruin of ancient Egyptian civilization, and was meant to intimidate any other Africans who might come up through the southern Sahara to try and invade Egypt. Ramses II was a bit of an egotist and the temple is a shameless tribute to himself, with his wife and various other folk and gods depicted at his feet. The looming presence of these statues is an amazing sight in person, and I tried to find ways to capture it. I found that the size was best captured close-up with shots from below.

Hi Michael, I like the perspective, it really emphasize the the grandeur of these statues. The light is nice and the combination of sandstone colour and the blue sky is very appealing. Well done!
